Key Features
Noise Level
The Breas Z2 auto addresses one of the major concerns of CPAP users—noise. At 26 dBA, the Z2 is the quietest travel CPAP and it’s the travel machine that we recommend to light sleepers, or anyone living with one.
Compared to other travel auto CPAP machines, the Z2 Auto operates like a gentle background hum during your sleep, integrating seamlessly into your nighttime routine instead of serving as a disruption.
In addition to its quiet motor, the Breas Z2 Auto CPAP features a Q-Lite In-Line Muffler which further reduces airflow noise. This muffler is a reusable accessory designed to further reduce the airflow noise transmitted to the mask through the CPAP tube.
The Q-Lite Muffler has a standard end fitting that is compatible with any non-heated standard 22mm or 15mm slim-style CPAP tube, and it comes ready to use with the foam baffling material installed.
The Q-Lite Muffler should be replaced on an as-needed basis, such as when there’s an audible increase in airflow or machine noise.
Operation Modes
The next feature we’ll explore in this Breas Z2 CPAP review is operation modes. The Z2 Auto conveniently comes with both CPAP and auto CPAP, or APAP, modes. In CPAP mode, the machine delivers a constant stream of pressurized air through the user’s mask which can cover their nose, mouth, or both. This fixed pressure helps prevent the collapse of the upper airway during sleep, ensuring a steady flow of air into the lungs.
On the other hand, in APAP mode, the machine dynamically adjusts air pressure delivery based on real-time feedback from the user’s breathing patterns.
When it detects a decrease in flow/increase in airway resistance, it interprets this information as a sign of increasing breathing obstructions and reacts by increasing the air pressure. Common causes for these increased airway obstructions are sleeping on your back and over-tightening your full face CPAP mask.

Auto Start and Auto Stop
Another remarkable feature of the Z2 Auto CPAP machine is the auto start/auto stop function. In this Z2 Auto CPAP review, we will talk about how these aspects add a layer of convenience to your CPAP experience.
Auto start/stop initiates airflow automatically when you place the mask on your face and start breathing. Once you remove the mask, it then automatically stops air delivery.
Auto Start is extremely convenient for CPAP users with limited hand dexterity, such as those with dementia and/or arthritis. Auto Stop, on the other hand, is great for bathroom breaks as it eliminates the need to reach over and turn off your CPAP before using the facilities.
Bear in mind that the auto stop feature will automatically cease therapy if a large leak is detected between the Z2 air outlet and the mask. This can happen when the mask is not worn correctly.

Size and Weight
The Breas Z2 CPAP machine is exceptionally travel-friendly thanks to its portable size and lightweight design. Weighing in at only 0.6 lbs and roughly the same size as a smartphone, it is a breeze to carry around.
The Z2 Auto Travel CPAP takes up minimal space in your luggage or backpack and is ideal for the tight quarters of a tent or car during off-grid adventures. Without a doubt, it is one of the best portable CPAP machines for camping.
CPAP Mask Compatibility
The Breas Z2 Auto is compatible with all CPAP masks and hoses, giving you the freedom to use any sleep apnea mask. Whether you prefer a full-face mask, nasal mask, or nasal pillow mask, with the Z2, you can use your preferred mask from your favorite brand.
Waterless Humidification
In this comprehensive Z2 Auto Travel CPAP machine review, we’ll introduce yet another innovative feature. Unlike other CPAP machines with bulky humidifiers, the Z2 Auto Travel CPAP includes a waterless CPAP humidifier called a Heat Moisture Exchanger (HME).
This clever technology captures the heat and moisture from your exhaled breath, enhancing your overall CPAP experience. But, how does it work?
When you then inhale, the HME releases the trapped heat and moisture into the breath. This helps prevent your airway from drying out and makes traveling easier by eliminating the need to bring distilled water.
To install the HME, you need to connect the larger diameter end of the HME to your mask and the smaller diameter end to your CPAP tube.
Make sure both connections are fully secured before using the CPAP machine. You can discard the HME after seven days or when it no longer provides adequate humidification.
Data and Compliance Reporting
Let’s jump into another aspect of our Z2 CPAP review, the super easy-to-use compliance reporting feature. The Breas Z2 Auto provides users with two methods of tracking their sleep data: the Breas Nitelog app or the DataViewer PC software.
Breas Nitelog App
The Nitelog app lets users easily view their sleep hours, apnea hypopnea index (AHI), and therapy pressure. Users can also generate their CPAP compliance report using the app. The Nitelog app can be downloaded to Apple or Android devices and connected to the Z2 Auto via Bluetooth.
To activate Bluetooth on the Z2, simply unplug the power adapter from the CPAP and plug it back in while holding the up arrow button. Bluetooth has been activated when you see “bt-On” on the display screen.
Deactivating Bluetooth can be achieved in two ways: either unplug the power adapter and plug it back in while holding the down arrow button until you see “bt-Off” appear on the display, or simply switch the device to airplane mode.
There are unfortunately, certain limitations to the app. It’s worth noting that it may not be compatible with all Android phones due to developer limitations.
DateViewer PC software
For those who do not want to use the smartphone app, it’s still possible to access and view sleep data on a computer with the Breas DataViewer PC Software installed. This software also allows users to generate their CPAP compliance reports.
To access DataViewer, download the Breas DataViewer PC Software and follow the guidelines in the DataViewer Guide to sync the Z2 with the software. Please note that this software is only compatible with Windows computers.
Exhalation Pressure Relief
Breas Z2 Auto’s Z-Breathe Exhalation Pressure Relief is a comfort feature designed to enhance your therapy experience. Z-Breathe makes therapy more comfortable by reducing air pressure during exhalation, making breathing easier. It employs a sophisticated algorithm designed to minimize the impact of abrupt pressure changes on exhalation, so you don’t have to worry about it affecting your therapy.
The Z-Breathe function offers three levels of pressure relief for customizable comfort. It can also be turned off, should you prefer.
Ramp
The Z2’s Ramp mode facilitates a gentler and more gradual transition into the therapeutic pressure, helping users adjust to CPAP therapy more easily. When activated, ramp initiates therapy at a pressure setting lower than the prescribed pressure.
This reduced pressure setting not only allows you to fall asleep more quickly but also allows for a gradual increase in air pressure over a period of 5 to 45 minutes. Users can adjust the ramp time in 5-minute increments, according to their comfort level.
The machine will start delivering the prescribed therapy pressure once the ramp period is complete. If your Z2 Auto is configured for Ramp mode, you will be able to see the “Ramp Progress” and “Ramp Time Remaining” indicators on the LCD display.
Please note that the Z2’s ramp time must be set to a minimum of five minutes before programming it to the “Ramp Start Pressure”. Failure to set it correctly will prevent the change to “Ramp Start Pressure” from taking effect, resulting in a “FAIL 2” message in the General Status Display field.
Battery Option
If you’re a fan of taking your CPAP off-grid, this Z2 Auto Travel CPAP machine review suggests checking out the Breas Z2 Battery, also known as the Z2 PowerShell. The PowerShell includes a case that holds both the Z2 machine and a lithium battery.
The battery life of this FAA-approved battery varies depending on the device’s altitude and pressure settings. It is important to note that both higher pressure settings and altitudes can drain the battery more quickly.
Battery life is also influenced by temperature, with colder weather further reducing the PowerShell’s runtime. This is because the PowerShell is designed to operate optimally within a temperature range of 41°F to 95°F. However, under ideal conditions, a fully charged PowerShell can provide up to 9 hours of runtime when operating at a maximum pressure of 20 cm H2O.
Automatic Altitude Adjustment
One of the remarkable features of the Z2 is that it can operate at altitudes up to 8000 ft above sea level. It automatically detects changes in altitude and adjusts the pressure accordingly to ensure comfortable and effective therapy.
Mask Leak Compensation
This Z2 Travel CPAP review also unveils another noteworthy feature—Mask Leak Compensation. Smartly designed, the Z2 travel CPAP machine can detect minor leaks from your CPAP mask.
When the CPAP detects mask leaks, it increases output to maintain the necessary therapy pressure. In the event of a mask leak, the word “REMINDER” will appear on the display to alert you. To clear this message, adjust your mask to achieve a proper fit.
